Centers & Institutes
The College of Social Sciences hosts a number of centers and institutes that continually contribute to their respective academic communities, as well as enrich the opportunities of our students.
- Center for Demography and Population Health
- The Center for Demography and Population Health at Florida State University is an autonomous, interdisciplinary unit of the College of Social Sciences. The Center's mission is to coordinate population research and training throughout the university by bringing together faculty and students from various academic departments and programs. The Center offers graduate-level training in population studies, including a program leading to a Master of Science degree in Demography. The Center also facilitates an undergraduate program leading to a Certificate in Demographics. The Center is the only unit within the State University System of Florida which is wholly dedicated to teaching, research, and service in population.
- Center for Disaster Risk Policy
- The Center for Disaster Risk Policy (CDRP) provides technical assistance and emergency management related program and information system development to government organizations. CDRPs continuing mission is to identify, develop, and promote best practices in emergency and public management. CDRP is a public service organization within the College of Social Sciences at Florida State University.
- Claude Pepper Center for Intercultural Dialogue
- The mission of the Claude Pepper Center for Intercultural Dialogue is to assist the nations of the world through research, education, and service in the construction of a civilization where diversities enhance rather than threaten the global human community.
- DeVoe L. Moore Center for the Study of Critical Issues in Economic Policy & Government
- The DeVoe L. Moore Center at Florida State University is an interdisciplinary unit in the College of Social Sciences that is dedicated to increasing knowledge and public understanding about the role of government in a market economy. The Center emphasizes the study of how government rules, regulations, and programs affect the economy and individuals. Bringing the insights of economics, political science, and public administration to the study of state and local regulations is a major focus of the Center's efforts.
- LeRoy Collins Institute
- LeRoy Collins Institute is an independent, nonpartisan and non-profit organization, which studies and promotes creative solutions to major private and public issues facing the people of Florida and the nation. The Institute, located in Tallahassee at Florida State University, is affiliated with the State University System of Florida and works in collaboration with the state's public universities. The Collins Institute has worked in the fields of civic education, constitutional revision, hurricane protection, criminal justice and urban planning. The Institute directs its work to issues near the top of the public agenda.
- Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy
- The Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy serves as coordinator and facilitator for the multidisciplinary work in aging studies at Florida State University. The resources of the Institute are used to support individual or collaborative research projects as well as graduate training and other educational initiatives campus wide. The Institute adminsters the Master's Degree in Aging Studies and the Certificate in Aging Studies programs for interested students to earn the appropriate credentials to pursue professional work in the field of aging. The Institute also sponsors an extensive outreach program for mature adults, The Academy at FSU, which encourages elders to return to campus to continue to learn, while participating in research projects and intergenerational education at Florida State University.
- Stavros Center for Economic Education
- The mission of the Stavros Center is to further free enterprise and economic education in the public schools and communities within our 12-county service area: Bay, Calhoun, Gadsden, Franklin, Gulf, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor and Wakulla Counties. In order to accomplish its mission, the Center’s specific objectives include: Staff assistance, community involvement, educational services, library services, product development, and networking.
- Survey Research Laboratory
- The Survey Research Laboratory (SRL) is a unit within the College of Social Sciences at Florida State University. The SRL is organized to provide services to University researchers, public agencies, and private organizations. Services include questionnaire design, sample design, data collection, data entry and coding, and data analysis.
