The College offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to take part in an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary degree program.

African American Studies

Undergraduate minor. The African American Studies program offers an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary approach to the study of ethnicity, identity, human relations, and cultural dynamics. The curriculum provides an intellectually powerful analysis of individual achievements, cultural phenomena and paradigms, institutional behaviors, global trends, and public discourse. The curriculum also focuses on educational and social policy issues.

Demography

Master of Science degree. The Center for Demography and Population Health at Florida State University offers a program leading to the degree of Master of Science in Demography. The program has been designed for students who wish to specialize in population studies and develop proficiency in the use of demographic concepts, data, and techniques. Emphasis is placed on the development of intellectual and analytical skills useful in a research setting.

Master of Health Policy Research & Master of Public Health

Master of Science degrees. The College offers two health-focused interdisciplinary Master's degrees: (1) Master of Health Policy Research (MHPR) and (2) Master of Public Health (MPH). Both degrees are designed to create health policy specialists who have the skills that are in high demand in modern private and public sector health care.

International Studies

Undergraduate degrees (BA, BS) and Master's degrees (MA, MS). Students can pursue a degree in a variety of subjects in the International Studies program. Students are presented with a large degree of freedom in selecting a curriculum to meet their individual interests and career goals. Within the program, students can pursue a degree in Asian Studies or Russian and East European Studies, which concentrate on language, culture, history, and the contemporary political and economic setting of a particular country or region. Students may also pursue a degree in International Affairs, which is designed to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of the field of international affairs and a background suited to the intelligent observation of global affairs.

Interdisciplinary Social Science

Bachelor of Science degree. This undergraduate degree provides the student an opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the social sciences. It helps to understand people and their society while building analytical and critical thinking skills. The primary focus is Jeffersonian in nature - to educate students for citizenship by understanding the society we live in, explaining the behavior of groups of people and institutions, and informing about the essential human values that influence the course of societies. Such knowledge gives students a better understanding of themselves and today's world, how the society evolved to its present state, and how they can have an effect on the future world we live in. Below are descriptions of concentrations available within this program.

Environmental Studies

Available as an undergraduate concentration, Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary program of study that provides an in-depth understanding of the social and institutional context of contemporary environmental concerns, including topics such as ecosystem management, resource conservation, land use planning, natural hazards, and the policy dimensions of environmental issues.

Law and Society
