David W. Rasmussen

Dean David W. Rasmussen, James H. Gapinski Professor of Economics, joined the FSU faculty in 1968 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Professor in 1979. He served as Director of the Policy Sciences Program from 1991 to 1998 and directed the DeVoe L. Moore Center for the Study of Critical Issues of Government and Policy from 1998 to 2003. Dr. Rasmussen has served as Dean since 2003.

He is an award winning teacher and has served as a consultant to domestic and international government agencies and non-profit organizations. Professor Rasmussen’s scholarly research and policy evaluation studies have addressed important public policy questions, including economics of inequality, urban and regional economic development, crime and substance abuse policy, and housing economics. He has written (or co-authored) five books and published over 75 articles in leading professional journals.

He received his Ph.D from Washington University, St. Louis in 1969 and his B.A. from Earlham College in 1964.

David and his wife, Joanne Rasmussen, have three children, Sarah, Kathryn and James.
