Congratulations to Georgianna Strode for being selected as the recipient of FSU's 2013 Disasters and Community Research Fellowship (DCRF)! The DCRF was created to empower students to use research or creative endeavors to shed light on disaster challenges facing communities and to create research relationships between FSU students and communities. Georgianna will be creating high-resolution dasymetric population GIS maps for the Florida Department of Health to facilitate estimation of health risks.(March 2013)
Congratulations to Ting Liu for being awarded an AAG IGIF (International Geographic Information Fund) Student Travel Grant to support her travel to the 2013 AAG Annual Meeting in Los Angeles! She is organizing a Special Paper Session entitled "Land Change Modeling: Concepts, Techniques, and Applications", and will be presenting a paper "Simulating Residential Development Decisions through an Agent-Based Approach." (March 2013)
Congratulations to Ms. Laura Michaels (MS-thesis)! Her paper entitled "The Decreasing Population Bias in Tornado Reports Across the Central Plains" has been accepted for publication in the American Meteorological Society's Weather, Climate, and Society journal. (March 2013)
Congratulations to Ting Liu for being the lead author for a research paper entitled “Mapping Vegetation in an Urban Area through Stratified Classification and Multiple Endmember Spectral Mixture Analysis” that has just been accepted for publication by Remote Sensing of Environment (RSE)! RSE is an international premier journal in remote sensing and environmental sciences. Its impact index for 2011 was 4.574, ranking 16/205 in environmental sciences and 1/24 in remote sensing.
