Hamdi A. W. Saleh

Ambassador Saleh served as Undersecretary of State (Egypt) for information and Policy Planning from 2003-2004. From 2000-2003 he served as Egyptian ambassador to Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, and was Ambassador to Mozambique and Swaziland from 2004-2005. Dr. Saleh has taught at several institutions in the U.S., Egypt and Africa. He made a significant contribution to social research on the transformation of the Islamic society and culture. As a civil society advocate Dr. Saleh initiated several NGO’s in Egypt, the U.S. and currently in South Africa and Mozambique. He has also been active in the human rights movements in the Arab World and in supporting women’s organizations, that advocate active roles for women in society. As a columnist and commentator his columns have appeared in the Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Washington Times, Christian Science Monitor among others. His career has underscored the interfacing among four major domains, Government, Academic, Journalism, and Advocacy of a dynamic civil society as a conduit to participatory democracy.
