About the Workshop
This workshop will highlight materials from three major sources:
- the new DVDs from John Stossel,
- the web site www.CommonSenseEconomics.com and
- Virtual Economics from the National Council on Economic Education.
Every teacher in social studies/social science fields should be familiar with and have access to these three important sources. There are now 35 Stossel video clips (most are 3 to 6 minutes) ranging from Are Things Getting Worse, to How High Are Gas Prices, and Price Gouging. These clips are guaranteed to get lively discussions going in your classes. During the last year, the Stavros Center has invested considerable time in bringing together exciting materials for beginning courses in economics and personal finance. These materials are now available on the CSE web site. The site provides speedy access to interesting exercises, short audio readings, games and activities that highlight basic concepts, and quick links to cool stuff (videos, cartoons, and interesting data sources). This workshop will illustrate these materials and show how they can be integrated into your classes. Finally, the Virtual Economics 3.0 CD-Rom contains more than 1200 lesson plans that can be accessed by topic and grade level. They are tied to both national and state standards. We had an earlier workshop on this valuable tool, but some of you missed it. This will be your chance to make up for that loss.
Sandwiches and light refreshments will be served during the workshop. Please contact Harriet Crawford (850-644-4772) or E-mail hcrawfor@coss.fsu.edu if you would like to attend this workshop.
